Edith Claire Posener was born in San Bernadino, California, in 1897, to parents, Max, and Anna Posener. Edith Posener spent the first few years of her young life in El Paso,Texas, a town on the Mexican border.

Edith Claire Spare graduated from Berkeley in 1919, and in 1920, the very same year women all over America acheived the right to vote, Edith attentended Stanford, and registered to vote in Los Angeles County.
